Job Development Wage Subsidy

(Individual & Projects)
OBJECTIVE(S):
- Designed to assist long-term unemployed or those at risk of
becoming long-term unemployed by providing training and/or work
experience opportunities that should lead to continuing or
future employment for individuals requiring assistance to
overcome labour market barriers.
- Designed to meet community needs to provide job creation
opportunities to assist to with major capital costs projects
that are of direct benefit to the community.
- Designed for students coming from and returning to full time
studies for work experience.
ELIGIBLE SPONSORS:
Aboriginal Bands/organizations. Aboriginal small business and/or
corporations.
ELIGIBLE CLIENTS:
- Those who are currently unemployed & did not quit a job to
participate on this project.
- Those requiring new skills or an upgrading of existing
skills to be able to access employment in the current labour
market.
- Those who are unemployed with skills required to meet the
community project requirements.
- Students that are coming from and returning to school of
full time studies. Could employ 1 or more people (new workers or
existing positions with no staff). Option to have a Manager
included in project costs.
ACTIVITIES:
Training and Work Experience activities designed to meet either
individual or community needs and delivered through employers.
TIME FRAME:
Normally 6 - 52 weeks.
WAGE SUBSIDY:
Participant/Trainee - Negotiable up to a maximum of $10 per hour.
Private Sector employers will normally receive a 50% wage subsidy up
to the maximum. Employers will be encouraged to contribute to wage
costs where possible. Manager - paid to existing rate for the
occupation & the responsibilities.
MANDATORY EMPLOYMENT RELATED COSTS:
(EI, CPP, Vacation Pay, WCB or Equivalent)
Up to 100% of wage subsidy costs.
TRAINING COSTS:
Negotiable as required. Normally for off-the-job training costs.
OVERHEAD COSTS:
Negotiable. Up to $200 per person per week (with exceptions possible
on a case-by-case basis). Examples of costs include: Materials &
Supplies, Travel, Equipment Rental, Photocopy, Communications,
Bookkeeping Costs, Office Rent etc.
SPECIAL COSTS:
Only as required. Equipment lease/rental related to activities (i.e.
chainsaw, computer, vehicle rental) Costs to assist disabled workers
(i.e. special equipment, renovations, one-on-one special training)
(Maximum up to $7,500).
